Alstom has won the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for Iraq's 740 MW gas-fired Zubair power plant near Basra. Eni SpA awarded the contract, which is valued at US$550 million.

Alstom's contract will cover the engineering, building and commissioning of the plant and include the supply of the equipment, in which the main items will be four GT13E2 gas turbines.

Technical support and engineering for the project will come from Alstom's power generation headquarters in Baden, Switzerland, and its gas turbine manufacturing facility in Mannheim, Germany. The new plant will support the expansion of the Dubai oil field near Basra.

Alstom said it is the only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to have secured more than one EPC contract in Iraq. It was awarded the Al Mansuriya project, northeast of Baghdad, in 2011.
