Thailand Opts for RB211s

Posted on April 5, 2006

Rolls-Royce has won a contract for three more industrial RB211 gas turbine compression packages by the Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT), in addition to the five packages announced in late 2005. The packages will be used on a PTT riser platform in a new offshore development in the Gulf of Thailand as part of the country’s gas pipeline master plan to increase the supply of natural gas to the Eastern region of Thailand.

The RB211-6562 gas turbine units will each drive Dresser-Rand ‘Datum’ gas compressors installed on the top deck of the riser platform, which is currently installed in the Gulf of Thailand. The compression facilities will be phased in to match the demand for gas, with the units becoming operational in 2008. The packages will be assembled at Rolls-Royce facilities in Mount Vernon, Ohio, U.S.A. and are scheduled for delivery in the first and second quarters of 2007.
