Multiple Steam Turbine Orders for MAN Turbo

Posted on April 28, 2009

MAN Turbo has received orders for steam turbines totaling US$130 million for a variety of applications including biomass-to-energy, waste-to-energy and solar power plants.

An 80 MW steam turbine will be supplied for a waste-to-energy plant in Great Britain, currently under construction in southeast London. The facility will generate energy from 585,000 tons of municipal and industrial waste per year, beginning in 2011. The 80 MW steam turbine will deliver electricity to approximately 66,000 households per year.

Two steam turbines, 25 MW and 20 MW will be supplied for the expansion of two waste processing plants in Germany and Switzerland. The two turbines, manufactured at MAN Turbo facility in Hamburg, will be used in processes involving the cogeneration of heat and power, in an effort to maximize the energy produced from waste.

A 125 MW steam turbine ordered for Masdar Abu Dhabi Future Company in Abu Dhabi will be the largest steam turbine used for solar heat. MAN Turbo's success in landing these orders was based on their wide array of reference projects as well as the high flexibility of the turbine that enables it to handle special load cases as required by the customer.
