Cummins Receives IMO Tier 2 Certification

Posted on April 1, 2010

Cummins Inc. has received a statement of compliance from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) certifying the QSK60 HPI auxiliary engine to IMO Tier 2 emissions standards. Two ratings are available for auxiliary and generator set applications -- 1563 kW at 1500 r/min and 1900 kW at 1800 r/min.

The 60 liter, V-16 engine features Cummins' high pressure injection electronic fuel system and the same lubrication, cooling, air handling and exhaust system as the IMO Tier 1 rated product. It also shares similar hardware as its predecessor, including engine mounts, vessel connection and optional equipment. Cummins said that while hardware and technology are mainly unchanged, a minor calibration change allowed for emissions reduction without significantly impacting fuel consumption.

Production will begin in the third quarter of 2010 atthe Daventry Egnine Plant in Daventry, England.
