Metso Part Of Power Projects In Europe

Posted on April 27, 2011

In two separate projects, Metso Corp. will supply an energy management system to Pori Energia in Pori, Finland, to improve the operation of its power plants and convert a coal-fired CFB boiler to a biomass-fired boiler for Elektrociep³ownia Tychy S.A. in southern Poland.

The energy management system for Pori Energia, which will be operational this fall, will collect data from the power plants’ information systems, steam consumers and service providers. The system then analyzes the data and provides consumption forecasts and calculates the production plans of all production units. The system will also be used in electricity and emissions trading, fuel acquisition and annual planning, Metso said.

In Poland, the coal-fired boiler conversion is part of EC Tychy S.A.’s production capacity reconstruction program that focuses on increasing renewable energy production and meeting the EU’s 2016 emissions requirements.

The delivery scope includes modification works of the current boiler, such as pressure parts, fuel and ash handling equipment and erection, as well as a complete automation system, Metso said. The supplied automation system consists of a process automation system, emissions monitoring and reporting, as well as instrumentation and electrification retrofit. The plant will produce 70 MW of heat and 40 MW of electricity to the national grid. The new boiler system will be operational in October 2012.
