Centrax Turns Up Heat In Germany

Posted on April 3, 2012

Centrax Ltd. has received an order to supply its CX501-KB7 generator package to Stadtwerke Oerlinghausen GmbH, southwest of Hannover, Germany, where it replaces a Centrax CX571 package installed in 1989.

This move ensures that more than 85% of the whole district heating demand can be met by the cogeneration installation when operating in conjunction with a biomass plant, with its thermal power output of 4 MW, according to Centrax.

The CX501-KB7 package can meet half of Oerlinghausen’s electrical demand. When it operates in conjunction with the plant’s gas engine and biomass-fired power station and gas-fired boilers, the town’s heating requirements can also be met, the company said.

Many components including the existing boiler and the plant’s original foundations were used for the new CX501-KB7 installation. Consulting engineers Beratende Ingenieure RICHTER (BIR) were responsible for the engineering work for the project. Centrax has a fleet of 18 generating sets installed in Germany powered by variants of the 501 gas turbine, six of them installed at district heating plants providing more than 91MW.
