Rolls-Royce Turbines Headed For Deep Waters
Rolls-Royce has received a US$30 million order to supply two RB211 gas turbines for Shell’s deepwater Malampaya gas project off the Philippines.
Shell has used Rolls-Royce drivers for the gas compression trains since project started up in 2001. The two additional RB211 units each will produce 27 MW and boost production as reservoir pressure declines over time. The RB211s have low emissions technology to minimize environmental impact, according to Rolls-Royce.
The contract was provided under a 2007 global frame agreement between Rolls-Royce and Shell Philippines Exploration B.V., which operates the Malampaya project on behalf of partners Chevron Malampaya LLC and the Philippine National Oil Co.
More than 60 Rolls-Royce RB211 gas turbines are in offshore service throughout Asia, according to the company.
