Stricter regulation of exhaust limit for ship engines drive the innovation for the development of new aftertreatment systems in the marine engine industry. NOx emissions need to be reduced by about 75% by 2016.
To reach these ambitious goals, new technologies have to be applied and existing engines are forced to be upgraded and optimized. Furthermore, fleets need to comply with the 0.1% sulphur fuel limit coming into force in the ECAs in 2015.
