Bahrain Power Plant Order for Siemens

Posted on December 22, 2004

The Siemens Power Generation Group (PG) is building a 950 MW turnkey combined-cycle power plant in Bahrain for Al Ezzel Power Company B.S.C. The volume of this order is approximately US$ 428 million. This power plant will be the first in the kingdom of Bahrain operated by an independent power producer. It will be located just south of Bahrain International Airport. The Siemens scope of supply includes four gas turbines, two steam turbines, six generators, as well as all electrical and instrumentation and controls systems. Commercial operation is scheduled to begin in two phases in 2006 and 2007. This will increase Bahrain’s installed generating capacity of approximately 2000 MW by roughly 50 percent. Over the next 10 years, the country will require an additional 2000 MW in power generation capacity.
