Electro-Motive Receives Order for SD70ACe Locomotives

General Motors Electro-Motive Division announced that BHP Billiton Iron Ore Pty. Ltd. has ordered and will take delivery in 2005 of 13 SD70ACe locomotives for use in its mining operations in northwest Australia. The SD70Ace locomotive is powered by the EMD 710 Series diesel engine rated at 3207 traction kilowatts. This engine meets the 2005 U.S. EPA emissions standards and has been developed for the North American freight locomotive market, as well as other heavy haul railways worldwide. The SD70Ace uses an a.c. traction system to develop the wheel-rail traction. The locomotives will be built by Electro0Motive in London, Ontario, Canada. EDI Rail, a division of Downer EDI Limited sold the locomotives and will provide service support. EDI Rail represents Electro-Motive in Australia and also manufactures and maintains locomotives with Electro-Motive technology.
