Alstom Breaks Ground on Steam Turbine Blade Facility

Posted on December 12, 2008

Alstom is building an 1858 square meter blade manufacturing facility at its service workshop in Richmond, Virginia, U.S.A. The expanded facility will more than double Alstom’s capacity to manufacture steam turbine blades for the power generation equipment made by Alstom and other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). “The new facility is a major milestone in Alstom’s strategy for growth in the U.S. power generation industry and a milestone for our local community,” said Jeff Allen, Vice President of Service Workshop Operations.

Upon completion in June 2009, the new facility will allow increased blade production of 7000 blades to 16 000 blades annually. The Richmond blade manufacturing operation can accommodate blades of up to 96.52 cm in length. The facility has been designed to support further capacity increases in response to market demand.

Alstom facilities in Richmond provide service, product support, repair and technology improvements for both Alstom and other OEM makes of generators, steam and gas turbines. Alstom designs, manufactures, installs and later services upgraded turbine controls and protection systems, generator excitation, human machine interface, and special control components.
