Cat Provides MaK Engines To Power Escort Tugs

With the upcoming delivery of the "Bourbon Bison" for Bourbon Supply Investissements, Catepillar Marine Power System (CMPS) will have powered four azimuth stern drive (ASD) escort tugs with its MaK 9 M 25 engines. According to the company, the MaK engines have been designed to fully comply with IMO regulations. Ease of maintenance and maintenance intervals have also been increased reported Caterpillar.

For the escort tugs operating to and from tankers, the MaK M 25 engines provide optimal fuel efficiency based given the operating conditons. The engines are also suitable in harsh tropical climates throughout the Middle East and Africa.

The original request was for two ADS escort tugs designed with 4x MaK 9 M 25 engines however, during the engineering process, the choice was made to instead build four tugs and redistribute the eight MaK engines.

CMPS is headquartered in Hamburg, Germany and provides power solutions in the medium- and high-speed segments with outputs from 93 - 16000 kW in main propulsion and 10 - 7680 kW in marine generator sets.
