Wärtsilä, Ship Architects Develop New Towboat Concept

Posted on December 3, 2010

Wärtsilä and Ship Architects Inc. have developed a new towboat concept that uses Wärtsilä 20DF and 34DF dual fuel engines for propulsion.

The concept was developed to help thousands of towboats on the Mississippi River and other inland rivers in the United States meet current and future emissions requirements.

Wärtsilä’s dual-fuel technology allows towboats on United States rivers to be powered by engines that comply with current and future environmental legislation, while creating operational cost savings for the operators.
