NAES Corp. announced that NAES Power Contractors Inc. has been awarded a contract by Kodiak Electric Association for the installation and commissioning of an 11.25 MW vertical Pelton turbine/generator unit at the Terror Lake Hydroelectric Project, a remote site on Kodiak Island, Alaska, U.S.A.

NAES Power Contractors will provide the labor and supervision for the installation of a third turbine and necessary ancillary equipment in the existing powerhouse. The addition of the third turbine will increase the total power plant capacity to 31 MW.

The company said the project will help Kodiak achieve its goal of having 95% of its electrical needs supplied by renewable energy by 2020. The project will provide the city of Kodiak, the U.S. Coast Guard Support Center, and the communities of Chiniak, Pasagshak and Port Lions with cost-effective and sustainably generated power. The new turbine is scheduled to be placed in service by October 2013.
