Wärtsilä Engines for Alaskan Power Plant

Posted on February 1, 2005

Wärtsilä Corporation has signed a US$4 million contract to deliver two generating sets to a new power plant for the Nome Joint Utility System in Nome, Alaska, U.S.A. The current power plant will be replaced with two Wärtsilä 12V32 generating sets with a combined output of 10.4 MW. The new Snake River plant will run on light fuel oil and is expected to be commissioned in late 2005. Since temperatures in Nome during the winter can reach 50 degrees below zero, reliability was a key factor in the contract award.
