Damen Launches Two Ferries in China

Damen Shipyards Gorinchem reported that it has completed two Damen Fast Ferries 4212 at Afai Southern Shipyard (Panyu Guangzhou) Ltd. in China. The first Fast Ferry 4212, built under yardnumber 538726 and named “Wan Sendari” was successfully launched last December. The second vessel, named “Wan Seri Beni”, built under yardnumber 538727 and identical to the first one, was successfully launched in early January.

The vessels have an aluminum construction with a 42 m length, 11.60 m beam, a moulded depth of 2.8 m and a draft of 1.5 m. The propulsion system includes four MTU 16V2000 M72 engines with a total output of 5760 kW at 2250 r/min. The engines will drive four Kamewa A56 waterjets through four Reintjes WLS 730 gearboxes. Auxiliary equipment includes two Caterpillar C4.4 gensets. The vessel is designed to have a speed of 37 kn at 31 tonnes deadweight.

Bintan Resort Ferries Private Limited in Singapore ordered both ferries in October 2007. Sea trials for both vessels are planned in the second half of January. After delivery in the first week of April 2009 in Singapore both vessels will sail between Singapore and the coast of Bintan Resorts. Currently Damen is building two other Fast Ferries 4212 at Afai Shipyard in China.
