Hyundai Heavy Industries Completes Development of Medium Speed Engine

Posted on January 5, 2009

HHI recently completed development of the sixth HiMSEN medium-speed engine. The newly developed H32/40V engine successfully passed its type approval test, held at the HHI Engine Machinery Division Engine Technology Center from December 15th-18th. Representatives from seven of the world's most renowned classification societies, including DNV, attended.

This new model was developed as a response to the recent increase in demand for 6-10MW medium-speed engines. The H32/40V is Korea's first original, environmentally friendly, Vee-configuration medium-speed engine. It is expected to gradually increase engine sales and global market share.

With the development of the HiMSEN H32/40V engine, in addition to the existing in-line engines, HHI and the Research Institute have developed V-configuration engine technology. HHI expects that further applications to gas engines and high-speed engines will create greater value in the global engine market.
