Alstom To Provide Metros To Amsterdam

The municipality of Amsterdam has placed an order with Alstom Transport for 23 metro trainsets. The contract also includes an option for additional metro trainsets for the North/South line currently under construction.

The metros will be produced in it Valenciennes France and Katowice Poland sites. The first trainset is scheduled to be delivered in Spring 2012. The order forms part of an ambitious public transport policy adopted by the municipality of Amsterdam, the City region and the operator, GVB. The development and modernization program for the Amsterdam metro includes a number of other initiatives--the creation of the North South line, the renovation of the East line and the rebuilding of the Amstelveen line.

According to the company, one in four metros presently in operation in the world is an Alstom metro. In total, more than 3000 Metropolis coaches have been sold worldwide.
