Familiar Faces For Electro-Motive Diesel

Posted on February 3, 2011

Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) has signed two agreements to supply SD70ACe locomotives to Ferrocarril Mexicano, S.A. de C.V. (Ferromex), and Quebec North Shore and Labrador (QNS&L), a subsidiary of Iron Ore of Canada.

Ferromex will receive 44 locomotives, with QNS&L receiving five. The SD70ACe locomotive, introduced in 2005 for freight applications, incorporates a two-stroke 710 engine rated 3206 kW and meets U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 2 emissions standards, the company said.

EMD will start delivering the locomotives to Ferromex in April, and to QNS&L in August. Ferromex’s contract also includes a 15-year maintenance agreement.

Both receiving companies are repeat customers. Ferromex already has 15 SD70ACe locomotives in its fleet; QNS&L ordered seven from EMD that were delivered last year.
