Malaysian Field Receiving Rolls-Royce Turbines, Compressors

Posted on January 17, 2012

Rolls-Royce has received an order for gas turbine and compression equipment for the Tapis oil and gas field, offshore Malaysia in the South China Sea.

ExxonMobil will use the equipment at the Tapis Enhanced Oil Recovery Project, which will feature a central processing platform with a new integrated deck. The oil company has launched a US$1 billion enhanced oil recovery project at Tapis and nearby fields, which are 190 km off Terengganu state in 64 m of water.

The order includes two Rolls-Royce RB211-GT61 gas turbines, each driving twin Rolls-Royce RCB and RBB multi-stage barrel gas compressors. Each gas turbine compressor set will produce 27 MW of power, enough to deliver up to 390 MMcfd. Delivery will begin in the third quarter.

Rolls-Royce said 42 of its RB211s and five Avon engines are already in service offshore in Malaysia. More than 500 Rolls-Royce gas turbines operate at offshore operations worldwide.
