Wärtsilä's Acquisition Of Hamworthy Effective

Posted on January 31, 2012

Wärtsilä’s acquisition of the British-headquartered, global engineering company Hamworthy plc is effective.

The acquisition is a major step in Wärtsilä’s strategy to strengthen its position as a total solutions provider, and to provide its customers with a range of products and services to the marine and offshore industries, the company said. Wärtsilä announced the recommended cash offer for Hamworthy in November last year.

Hamworthy provides an assortment of specialist equipment and systems to the shipping industry, and systems that improve process efficiency and environmental compliance in the oil & gas industry, according to the company.

Hamworthy employs about 1000 people worldwide, and has offices in Europe, the United States, Asia, the Middle East and India. Wärtsilä currently employs around 18 000 people working from 170 locations in 70 different countries.
