Cat Power Onboard At Russian Offshore Platform
Three Cat 3516B (HD) gen-sets installed
Caterpillar's 3516B (HD) gen-set is rated 2000 kW at 1500 r/min (50 Hz).
Caterpillar Oil and Gas’ Cat 3500 diesel generator sets have been installed on an offshore oil and gas platform in Russia. Three Cat 3516B (HD) gen-sets, each with 2000 kW at 1500 r/min of power (50 Hz), will provide prime and emergency power for the fixed platform, which also features 3x Cat 3412 fire pumps.
All the diesel generators can be interchanged in service to cover both the emergency and essential loads as per power demand. The packages are highly customized for offshore service and severe seismic requirements, Caterpillar said.
For this project, auxiliary systems for climate control, black dual starting capabilities at low temperatures and snow conditions, as well as controls, monitoring and protection systems, were included in the scope of supply.
Manufactured in Lafayette, Indiana, U.S.A., the Cat 3500 diesel generator sets have been installed on several offshore platforms around the world. The 3516B series features power density, a long overhaul life and the ADEM A3, Caterpillar said.
