Increasing Shale Play Penetration

Orders for new, current customers to be used in oil and gas applications

Posted on January 9, 2014

Capstone Turbine Corp. received multiple orders totaling 6.4 MW from E-Finity Distributed Generation – Capstone’s exclusive oil and gas distributor for the Marcellus and Utica Shale plays – for its microturbines to be used for oil and gas operations.

One of the current customers is expanding an existing gas transmission station in Pennsylvania, U.S.A.  The combined heat and power (CHP) system consisting of three C65 ICHP units will be replaced with a Capstone C800 (800 kW) power package and a heat recovery system, producing 4 million BTUs of hot water. The hot water will be used for heating fuel gas for the compressors and building heat, alleviating the need for ancillary equipment.

Another repeat customer purchased multiple C1000 (1 MW) packages to replace aging reciprocating engine-driven generators, reducing the overall footprint in their existing facilities.

A new order came from a midstream company that selected a C800 as the three-phase power source for a new compression facility. Due to the construction schedule and location, the company said that utility grid power was not an option.
