Since March 2013, the specialist for large engines, propulsion systems and distributed energy systems has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rolls-Royce Plc. and Daimler AG, each of which has a 50% shareholding in the company via a joint venture.

MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH is the main subsidiary of a group of companies within the Rolls-Royce sphere that have been consolidated. The product portfolio includes MTU brand high-speed engines and propulsion systems for ships and heavy land, rail and defence vehicles, and for the oil and gas industry.
