Rolls-Royce Turbines for Offshore Project

Posted on July 6, 2005

Rolls-Royce has secured a contract from ExxonMobil for gas turbine packages to be used in an offshore Nigeria project. Two new 30 MW RB211-6562 gas compression units will be supplied for the East Area NGL II Project, to work alongside five identical units ordered in 2003 for the East Area Additional Oil Recovery (AOR) Project.

The equipment will be used in conjunction with a gas expander to recover the natural gas liquids (NGL) from the multiple reservoirs in the East Area fields in water depths of 26 to 34 m. Gas from the fields will also be used to fuel the turbines, minimizing gas flaring from six joint-venture East Area fields. The seven total Rolls-Royce RB211 mechanical drive units will power centrifugal barrel compressors manufactured by Siemens and Dresser-Rand.

The Rolls-Royce gas turbines for this phase of the East Area project will be engineered, packaged and tested at the company's Mount Vernon facilities in the United States. Delivery will be in the second quarter of 2006. The project is scheduled to start in 2008.
