Alstom Completes 450 MW Power Station in Australia

Posted on August 25, 2006

Alstom has successfully completed the design, supply, construction and commissioning of the Braemar power station in Australia on behalf of its client, independent power producer NewGen Power, a specialist gas-fired power generation company owned by ERM Power and Babcock & Brown, all within an impressive 15 month program.

The 450MW gas-fired Braemar Power Project, in Queensland, was officially commisioned by Queensland Premier, the Hon Peter Beattie, in time to meet the state’s expected increased summer peak electricity demands.

Located approximately 20 km west of Dalby, construction of the 3 x GT13E2 gas turbine-based plant was completed within an aggressive 15 month program. Since construction commenced in May last year, more than 430 000 man hours have been applied to the site with no lost time to injuries.

“The success of this project is the result of a fantastic team effort between Alstom and NewGen Power, our workforce and strong support from the industrial unions involved,” said Alstom Project Director John Burke.
