GE Aeroderivative for Alaskan Muni Plant

GE Energy will provide a 30-megawatt aeroderivative gas turbine to Peak Oilfield Service Company of Anchorage, Alaska for use at the Anchorage Municipal Light and Power (ML&P) plant. The installation of the LM2500+PR with dry low emissions represents the first aeroderivative peaking and intermediate duty plant for the Alaskan municipality market.

The new gas turbine will replace ML&P’s older, industrial frame equipment, which is not currently designed for peaking or intermediate use applications. The new machine allows the customer to perform daily starts and stops without maintenance penalties. This is the second aeroderivative sold to the overall Alaskan municipality market, the first being an LM6000 currently under construction in North Pole, which will operate as a base-loaded unit in a combined cycle configuration.

“Our LM2500+PR gas turbine will improve the current plant efficiency rating by approximately 14 percent. This improvement will allow ML&P to operate much more efficiently and with higher reliability,” said Charles (Chip) Blankenship, general manager, GE Energy’s aeroderivative business.

GE Energy is scheduled to ship the LM2500+PR to ML&P in December 2006 and commercial operation is expected to begin in May 2007. Natural gas will serve as the primary fuel.
