Korean Power Plant Upgrading Alstom GT11Ns

Posted on August 30, 2006

ALSTOM has won a gas turbine upgrade order from the Korea South East Power Company Ltd. (KOSEP). The scope of work consists of upgrading two GT11N type gas turbines to GT11NM at the Bundang combined-cycle power plant, located on the outskirts of Seoul. The turbines will be upgraded in October and November this year.

The GT11N to 11NM upgrade configuration includes new turbine blades and vanes, heat shield segments, vane carrier, and exhaust gas housing. The upgrade results in significantly improved efficiency and power output without increased emissions. Optimised cooling and other design improvements improve turbine reliability, availability and maintainability relative to the GT11N engine, reducing the life-cycle costs of the turbines.

Hans-Peter Meer, Senior Vice President, Power Service, commented: “We are honoured to have been chosen by KOSEP for these upgrades, which will keep the Bundang plant competitive. ALSTOM’s OEM expertise, our second-to-none customer service and our extensive upgrade experience – in particular our many “M” references – are giving us the edge in an increasingly competitive market environment.”
