Prüftechnik To Partner With IHC Merwede

Posted on August 13, 2009

The Belgium subsidiary of Prüftechnik recently announced a partnership agreement with IHC Merwede for vibration measurements in dredger operations. IHC Mehrwede is a leading manufacturer of special dredging equipment and of complex, custom-built vessels for offshore construction.

Through its IHC Life Cycle Support service, IHC Merwede is involved with the entire life cycle of a dredging vessel. Periodical monitoring is part of the IHC Condition Monitoring Program, based on eight measurement technologies, including vibration measurements, which prevents both unnecessary maintenance work and unplanned shut-downs.

Vibration measurements are conducted with special equipment placed on the main rotating parts of a vessel, such as pumps and gearboxes. This allows the sensors to detect possible anomalies in the tolerances of the high-grade rotating parts at an early stage and analyze them.

The combination of IHC Merwede’s expertise in the design, production and maintenance of ships with Prüftechnik's know-how in condition and vibration measurements will benefit each in their respective industries.
