Tognum, Sunseeker Extend Yacht Engine Agreement

Posted on August 12, 2009

Tognum announced that it has recently expanded its engine supply agreement with Sunseeker yachts. Under the new agreement, which was extended to 2012, Tognum’s Engines business unit will supply the British yacht builder with V8, V10, V12 and V16 diesel engines from its MTU Series 2000 range and V12 and V16 MTU Series 4000 engines, covering an overall power range of 1086 to 4613 bhp (810 to 3440 kW).

The agreement further stipulates that MTU will supply as many as 450 engines, dependent on market conditions, up to 2012. The first engines to be delivered under the agreement will reach Sunseeker by the middle of August, Tognum said. “In view of the difficult situation in the yacht sector, this expanded framework agreement underscores the success of our many years of cooperation with Sunseeker,” said Rainer Breidenbach, Tognum executive board member responsible for the Engines business unit.

High-speed yacht engines have traditionally been one of MTU’s core segments and the company said the Series 2000 and 4000 engines comply with all valid ship exhaust emissions standards worldwide, including EPA Tier 2 and IMO. All are supplied with SOLAS certifications, the company said.
