IMO II-Compliant M 20 C Engine Now Available From Caterpillar Motoren
Caterpillar Motoren has made the IMO II-compliant configuration of the M 20 C medium speed engine available nearly six months before the IMO regulations take effect for the marine industry on Jan. 1, 2011.
The M 20 C is available for purchase globally in 6- and 8-cylinder configurations, and can produce between 1020 to 1520 kW at 900 to 1000 rpm. It also is capable of operation on heavy fuel oil or marine diesel oil.
More than 1200 M 20 C engines have been manufactured and sold throughout the global MaK dealer network for marine and petroleum applications, according to the company. Manufactured in Kiel, Germany, at the Kiel Engine Center, the M 20 C was redesigned with a new plunger for emission optimization in alignment with new timing for fuel injection, combustion inlet and exhaust outlet.
For current M 20 C owners, a retrofit kit is available in order to meet IMO II regulations. Other MakKmedium-speed engines will be IMO II-compliant and available for sale worldwide at the end of the year.
