Posted on August 13, 2010

Spanish contractor Acciona Instalaciones has received an order from Commission Federal de Electricidad (CFE), Mexico, for a diesel power plant with a MAN Diesel & Turbo B&W 12K80MC-S prime mover. The order will be a 42.3 MW extension to two existing 43 MW plants in La Paz, Baja, California Sur, Mexico, powered by one MAN B&W 10K90MC-S engine and one MAN B&W 12K80MC-S engine.

The new plant will work in a combined cycle with a bottoming cycle steam turbine and produce 42.3 MW at an efficiency rate of 44.3%. MAN Diesel & Turbo’s licensee, Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., of Korea and Acciona Instalaciones, will supply the engine and its related equipment. Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. has already supplied a similar 43 MW plant at La Paz, Baja California Sur.

The plant will run on fuel with a viscosity of around 1100 cSt at 50°C and 4.3% sulfur content. The new installation complements the existing facility.
