A Tropical Investment

Posted on July 26, 2011

Danish engineering company Burmeister & Wain Scandinavian Contractor A/S (BWSC) has received a US$60 million (€41.3 million) contract to build a 52 MW turnkey power plant in Freeport, Grand Bahama, Bahamas. The plant will be on a new greenfield site next to the existing power plant, which BWSC delivered to the client Grand Bahama Power Co. in 2005.

The new plant will be built by a consortium of BWSC and MAN Diesel & Turbo, with BWSC as main contractor responsible for the technical and commercial aspects.

The plant is based on six MAN Diesel 18V32/40 medium-speed, heavy fuel oil engine generator sets, which BWSC said are configured to anticipate unusually heavy load variations and spinning reserve requirements initiated from dredging operations in Freeport Harbour.
