Bergen Engines – The New Tognum Subsidiary

Ownership of Norwegian engine manufacturer Bergen Engines AS formally transferred to Tognum AG

Posted on July 1, 2013

Norwegian engine manufacturer and former Rolls-Royce subsidiary Bergen Engines AS has officially become part of the Tognum Group.

Since March 2013, Tognum AG has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rolls-Royce Power Systems Holding GmbH, a joint venture of Daimler AG and Rolls-Royce Group plc.

With this transfer of ownership, Tognum – a propulsion and power solution specialist – extends its product portfolio to include high- and medium-speed diesel and gas engines with power outputs up to 10 MW, as well as system solutions.

Tognum said that the integration of Bergen Engines has led to promising cooperation and positive exchange of knowledge and resources. The combining of the medium- and high-speed portfolios serves as an important milestone in Tognum’s growth strategy, the company said.

Tognum supplies high-speed diesel and gas engines carrying the MTU brand with power ranges of 75 kW to 10 MW and 100 kW to 2.1 MW, respectively. The Bergen engine portfolio comprises medium-speed units for marine and power generation applications – the diesel engines deliver 1800 kW to 8 MW and the gas engines are built for 1400 kW to 9.7 MW output.

Tognum said the combined product portfolio especially supports accessing the dynamically growing emerging markets.
