GE to Supply Compressors for Indian Refinery Project

Posted on June 7, 2006

GE’s Oil & Gas business will be among the suppliers of compression technology to Reliance Petroleum Ltd. (RPL) for a project in Jamnagar, India that will result in the world’s largest refinery complex at a single location. The Jamnagar Export Refinery is located in a Special Economic Zone adjacent to an existing refinery owned by Reliance Industries, Ltd. (RIL) that currently ranks as the third largest single-location refinery in the world. RIL created RPL as a startup venture for the Jamnagar refinery project.

When the new, 580 000 barrel-a-day refinery project is completed in December of 2008, the total capacity for the RIL-RPL Jamnagar site will be more than 1.2 million barrels per day. Jamnagar is in Gujarat State, about 400 kilometers from Ahmedabad. The refinery project is expected to help transform India from a net importer to a net exporter of petroleum products, with target export markets including Europe, the United States and the Far East.

GE will supply three reciprocating compressors, two screw compressors and spare parts for the project. The reciprocating compressors will be manufactured at GE’s Oil & Gas facilities in Florence, Italy, while the screw compressors will be supplied from GE’s plant in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The equipment will be shipped during the first and second quarters of 2008.
