MAN Engines To Add Power To Miraflores Plant

Posted on June 17, 2011

Hyundai Heavy Industries has received a contract to supply two engines of the MAN B&W 12K80MC-S design to help expand the Miraflores Power Plant. The existing plant has a total installed capacity of 151 MW based on power generated by three gas turbines, two steam turbines and three medium speed diesel engines.

The new engines in the plant are equipped with Turbo Compound System (TCS), with each developing 41.47 MW at an efficiency rate of 49.2% at 100% MCR at site ambient conditions, the company said. Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. will supply the engines to ACP.

The MAN B&W 12K80MC-S engines will run on HFO with a sulfur content of 3%. As to the NOx emission level, the design of the engines ensures compliance with the World Bank’s 1998 regulation, stating 2000 mg/Nm³. Secondary measures for compliance with the NOx emission regulations are not necessary. Particulate emission level is achieved by application of an Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) in order to comply with the limit of 50 mg/Nm³.
