Posted on June 18, 2014

Wärtsilä has received an order to supply a turnkey power plant for a 47 MW captive power plant located in the mountain desert close to Taif city, Saudi Arabia.

The power plant consists of five 20-cylinder Wärtsilä 32TS engines, a new two-stage turbocharged version of the Wärtsilä 32 series. The company said the engine is designed to operate at high efficiency even in extreme ambient conditions such as high ambient temperatures and high altitudes. The power plant will serve a cement factory in extreme temperatures up to 50oC and an altitude above 1000 m.

The 32TS engine delivers reduced fuel consumption while complying with the World Bank EHS (environment, health and safety) guidelines for NOx emissions, Wärtsilä said.

The order was placed by the Umm Al-Qura Cement Co. and the equipment will be fast-track delivered by February 2015 with the project entering commercial operation by October 2015, the company said.
