EMD Recieves Tier 2 Emissions Certification

Electro-Motive Diesel announced it has recieved IMO Tier 2 emissions cerification for its two-cylinder 710GC-T2 engine family. In addition to IMO Tier 2, EMD engines are U.S. EPA Tier 2 certified as well as being certified by ABS, DNV, BV, Lloyds, CCS, and KR classification societies.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is an agency of the United Nations and has created rules for prevention of pollution from ships commonly referred to as MARPOL 73/78. In October of 2008, IMO’s Marine Environmental Protection Committee amended Annex VI of the rules and set NOx Tier 2 levels effective January 1, 2011.
