Wärtsilä to Power New Carnival Cruise Vessel

Wärtsilä has recieved an order to power the new cruise vessel of Carnival Corp., carrying the preliminary name "Carnival Dream 3." The vessel will be built by the Fincantieri Monfalcone shipyard in Italy and is expected to enter service in Spring 2012.

Wärtsilä will supply six 12-cylinder 46 engine with diesel-electric configurations. The rated output is 12 600 kW at 514 rpm each. The generated electrical power will be used for propulsion, bow and stern thrusters, air conditioning, lighting and auxiliary services. In addition, the cruise ship has been designed to operate on light fuel oil to help reduce emissions, said the company.

The vessel will sail world-wide, mainly in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Alaska. It will be able to carry up to 3690 passengers with an overall length of about 306 m, breadth of 37 m and a maximum draught of 8.5 m.
