Cruising Right Along

ABB has received an order worth US$60 million to provide complete power and propulsion systems for two new cruise ships, which will be built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. at their shipyard in Nagasaki, Japan.

The cruise ships, which belong to German cruise line operator AIDA, each weigh 113 000 tonnes and have a passenger capacity of 3250. The ships are scheduled for delivery in March 2015 and March 2016.

ABB will supply complete electrical systems for both ships, including generators and transformers for propulsion; engine room and distribution; frequency converters; bow thruster motors; and other related power equipment, as well as Azipod XO propulsion systems.
