GE Opens First Office In Turkmenistan

Posted on May 23, 2011

GE has opened its first office in Turkmenistan. Located in the capital of Ashgabat, the office will serve as the hub of GE Energy’s growing activities in Turkmenistan’s power generation and delivery sectors.

The office will include a training facility and a technology showcase. The initial staff will include commercial and technical engineers to support ongoing activities in the power generation and oil and gas sectors, GE said.

“The new office illustrates our localization strategy for Eastern Europe and the CIS and will enable us to quickly respond to local customers’ needs,” said Joe Carelli, managing director for GE Energy in the Caspian region. “It will provide vital support as we continue to develop cleaner, smarter and more efficient energy solutions that help the region expand and diversify its energy resources.”

The Ashgabat office builds upon GE’s presence in Turkmenistan. GE-installed gas turbines have the capacity to generate more than 1700 MW of electricity in the country. In addition, GE provides water purification and oil and gas technology in Turkmenistan.
