One Month To Go For Drax Power Station
One month remains before the modernization work on the Drax Power Station, located in the U.K., is completed, Siemens Energy said.
The project, which has taken five years to complete, will enable the station to reduce its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 907 185 tonnes a year, equivalent to taking 275 000 cars off the road, according to Siemens. The plant’s overall efficiency will also increase nearly 40%
Siemens received the £100 million contract to modernize all six units at the power station in 2007. Over the five-year period, Drax and Siemens have replaced the low pressure and high pressure turbines on all six units at the power station.
The new turbines, manufactured by Siemens Germany, consist of 28 separate turbine rotors weighing ore than 2540 tonnes, and more than 80 000 individualized turbine blades.
