Siemens has expanded its compressor portfolio with a turbo compressor designed for the sulfuric acid industry.

With a rotor diameter of 2240 mm and a capacity range between 8 and 14 MW, the single-stage STC-SOF (22) turbo compressor can replace two machines operated in parallel in plants with a production capacity of up to 5443 tonnes of sulfuric acid per day.

By operating in combination with control and drive systems, the compressor can reduce overall costs by up to 20%, compared to a unit with two model STC-SOF compressors with a rotor diameter of 1400 mm.

The compressor is characterized by low procurement and operating costs, with efficiencies of 87% attainable.
