Four-Day Power Installation

24 MW temporary power plant to support existing Oman grid during peak season

Posted on May 28, 2013

Altaaqa Global has successfully designed and installed 24 MW of temporary power in the Sultanate of Oman, taking only 4 days to complete. The power project was one of the fastest installations in the history of the equipment rental industry, the company said.

To meet electricity demands throughout the summer, the 24 MW temporary rental power plant will supply power to the electricity grid when there is a significant increase in the use of temperature control equipment, such as air conditioning and district cooling. Supporting the existing generating capacity of Oman, the interim power plant will ensure peak performance during the hottest months of the year.

The full turnkey solution offers a complete package of power generators, transformers, fuel tanks, distribution panels, electrical accessories and 24/7 Cat certified power engineers who will manage the temporary power plant, the company said.

Altaaqa Global, a subsidiary of Zahid Group, has been selected by Caterpillar Inc. to deliver multi-MW turnkey temporary power solutions worldwide. The company owns, mobilizes, installs and operates efficient temporary independent power plants (IPP’s) at customer sites, focusing on the emerging markets of Sub-Sahara Africa, Central Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.

The company said it offers power rental equipment that will operate with different types of fuel such as diesel, natural gas or dual-fuel, and is positioned to rapidly deploy and provide temporary power plant solutions whenever and wherever it may be needed.
