Caterpillar Marine has been selected to provide an optimized tug package for a 55T ASD tug newbuild for Remolcadores Marracoi SL (REMARSL). The vessel will be constructed at Freinaval shipyards in Spain.

Two Cat 3512C EPA Tier 2 propulsion engines have been selected to power the tug as well as two MTA 523FP azimuth thrusters. Each Cat 3512C engine will provide 1765 kW at 1800 r/min of rated power. Auxiliary power will be delivered through two Cat C9 engines.

Manufactured in Lafayette, Indiana, U.S.A., the Cat 3512C is a vee-12 cylinder diesel engine with a 170 mm bore by 215 mm stroke and 58.6 L displacement. The constant-speed 3512C engine offers the latest in electronic fuel system capabilities and ADEMTM A4 Electronic Control Units (ECU), the company said.

Steerable with a custom-made controllable or fixed pitch propeller, Cat azimuth thrusters are available in both L-drive and Z-drive configurations. Customizable options include a feathering BCP hub for greater vessel flexibility and efficiency, Cat said, adding that other benefits include low levels of noise and vibration as well as simplified installation and maintenance.
