MTU, Weir Announce Fracking Deal
Companies to develop power systems; agreement includes system service, maintenance
Weir Oil & Gas, a global manufacturer of hydraulic fracturing pumps, and MTU, a Rolls-Royce Power Systems company, have signed an agreement to develop power systems specifically engineered for hydraulic fracturing applications.
The systems will be used for hydraulic fracking operations during the well completion stage of shale oil and gas projects, and fully integrated power systems are expected to be available in mid-2015. No financial details were provided.
The companies said the collaboration builds on Weir's SPM pumping technology and the performance of the new MTU Frac Pack, and will utilize the best technology and service capabilities in the market to provide a total integrated offering.
Weir said the agreement also provides for full service and preventive maintenance of the entire power system.
