Power Plant Begins Operations

Second facility with Siemens H-Class technology goes into operation

Posted on May 12, 2014

The Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center in Florida, U.S.A., began commercial operation in April 2014. The plant operator is Florida Power & Light Co. (FPL), a subsidiary of U.S. energy utility NextEra Energy Inc.

For the plant, Siemens supplied three SGT6-8000H gas turbines, each delivering an electrical generating capacity of 274 MW. The company said the Riviera Beach facility is 33% more fuel-efficient than the oil-burning power plant units previously installed at this site. Carbon dioxide emissions will be cut by almost 50% and air emissions reduced by more than 90%, Siemens said.

Generating a total output of 1250 MW, this power plant produces enough electricity to power 250 000 Florida households as well as local industry.
