New Offshore Orders for Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce will supply four gas turbine electrical generating sets for Agip KCO N.V. as part of a contract won in association with ABB. The RB211 gas turbine units, with a combined output of 120 MW, will be used on a new power generation barge being constructed for Agip by ABB at a Malta shipyard. The vessel will provide the electrical power for the offshore field development of the Kashagan offshore oil field 80 km south of Atyrau in the Caspian Sea, offshore Kazakhstan. Once complete, the 95 m long barge will be towed into position.

Delivery of the gas turbine packages is scheduled for the third quarter of 2005. Final delivery to the Caspian Sea is scheduled for July, 2006. ABB is responsible for the engineering, procurement, fabrication, commissioning and start-up services of the complete barge. This new field is one of the biggest oil deposits discovered in the last 30 years. The companies of the North Caspian Sea Production Sharing Equipment (PSA), which includes the Kashagan field, are: Agip KCO (Operator 16.67%), BG Group (16.67%), ConocoPhillips (8.33%), ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Inc. (16.67%), Inpex (8.33%), Total (16.67%) and Shell (16.67%).
