Siemens to Upgrade Turbine-Generator Units

Posted on November 25, 2008

Siemens Energy has received orders from Florida Power & Light Company, a subsidiary of FPL Group, Inc., one of the largest and fastest growing U.S. power companies, to refurbish and upgrade the turbine-generator units of its St. Lucie and Turkey Point nuclear power plants to increase power output. The order value for equipment and certain field installation services is approximately USD250 million.

Additionally, Siemens was awarded a contract in June of this year to upgrade FPL Energy’s Point Beach nuclear units in Wisconsin, valued at approximately USD90 million. According to the company, these two projects have the potential to increase the installed capacity by approximately 570 MWe.

Siemens was also awarded a contract by FPL Energy to upgrade the two-unit Point Beach nuclear power plant located near Two Rivers, Wisconsin, earlier this year. The upgrades are expected to add up to 85 MWe to the installed capacity of each Point Beach unit.
