MTU Series 4000 Available In 8-Cylinder Version
Tognum subsidiary MTU Friedrichshafen presented its 8-cylinder version of the Series 4000 workboat engine at the Europort ship exhibition in Rotterdam, Netherlands, November 3rd through 6th.
The long-stroke engine has been optimized to meet the needs of workboats. Specific consumption has been reduced to 195 grams per kilowatt hour and maintenance intervals for major overhauls have been extended up to 34 000 hours, depending on output and load profile.
The Series 4000 is now available in all configurations - 8V, 12V, 16V - for the 746 to 2240 kW power range. The new engine meets all current emission requirements, EPA Tier 2, CCNR 2, and EU Stage IIIA and has been designed for compliance with expected future emissions.
Vessels such as ocean-going tugs, inland waterway vessels and fireboats are the workhorses of the workboat world. The use of diesel engines in workboats varies enormously depending on the type of ship. Different applications impose different demands on the engine. According to the company, key features of the Iron Men Series 4000 engines for workboats offer low fuel consumption, long maintenance intevals with maximum availability and reliability.
